Good news for visitors in Canada!
You may keep working in Canada if you have a valid job offer.
As the title suggest, “continue” as they refer to those who are already in Canada and had a valid job offer, have worked for the last 12 months and contract may be ending.
No need to leave Canada in order to get work permit. That was the rule before, but thanks to the pandemic, an exemption was made.
This exemption has been extended from Feb 28, 2023 to now Feb 28, 2025. This policy should have expired, as it was a Covid-era temporary public policy. This policy allows visitors to get a job in Canada without having to leave the country.
What is a valid job offer?
Please take note, they are not just any jobs out there.
The job being offered must be supported by a LMIA (labour market impact assessment) or an LMIA exempt offer of employment.
For this purpose, you should acquaint yourself by reading about LMIA to learn how to navigate it and do half of what an employer will need to do. The challenge with LMIA is that it’s quite tedious and require paperwork on the employer’s part.
In some cases, the employers may be relatives, or friends, so they will be patient enough to go through the paperwork. Your help may be valued by the employer, if he/she is ok with your help in paperwork.
Important to remember: When you apply for a work permit, your visitor’s visa must still be valid.
Who are considered “visitors?”
They are the people visiting as tourists; those visiting on business; visiting a family; and those visiting for compassionate reasons.
Good luck!

Great article about work permits in Canada for visitors! It’s always important to stay up-to-date on the latest regulations, and this article does a great job of explaining the current situation. I appreciate the clear and concise language used to explain the process for obtaining a work permit and the helpful tips provided for those looking to apply. This is definitely a useful resource for anyone who is considering working in Canada as a visitor. Do you have any advice for people who may be struggling with the application process? Thanks for sharing!
There are always challenges in the application process, which would start in securing the required documents, pooling money for the expenses, and submitting the requirements online.
Researching online is very important, plus watching tutorials, videos or even asking from people whom they know are already in Canada, would really help in making their navigation easier.
Usually visitors who come to Canada have families who have lived in Canada for awhile and their support is really vital.
Thanks for visiting.
